Karin Caro's Story
When I was a little girl, I remember my mother falling to the ground holding her chest and screaming, "my heart...my heart!" She had rheumatic fever when she was 12, 18 and 19 which effected her heart and left her with a murmur. In 1982, she had pericarditis which resulted in heart attack...and left me worried all the time that my mother would die of a heart attack. I am fortunate that she didn't (although my family will always worry) but 7 years ago, my husbands mother did. It came out of the blue, a phone call on my way back from an event...that she unexpectedly passed. She left 4 sons, 13 grandchildren (4 are my children) a husband. No child should have this worry or sadness, at any age. That is why I am proud to be the 2013 Go Red Honoree and I ask you to help The American Heart Association with their mission to build healthier lives that are free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
